Appalachian Highlands Center for Nursing Advancement in East Tennessee at East Tennessee State University
Our journey began in October 2021 with the launch of the Appalachian Highlands Center for Nursing Advancement at East Tennessee State University, backed by a significant investment from Ballad Health. Recognizing the critical need for a statewide approach, the Tennessee legislature formally established the Tennessee Center for Nursing Advancement in July 2022 through Senate Bill 2401. By August 2024, the two centers merged to create a unified entity focused on leading workforce initiatives and advancing nursing excellence.
In November 2024, we received official approval to operate under our current name, the Tennessee Center for Nursing Advancement. Shortly after, we convened our inaugural advisory board meeting, uniting members from both centers to guide our mission and shape the future of nursing in Tennessee. Today, we remain committed to empowering nurses, improving workforce sustainability, and driving innovation in nursing education, leadership, and policy.
