What Is the Nurse Leadership Fellowship?
A structured, applied leadership development program designed for emerging and current nurse leaders. The fellowship focuses on real-world leadership application, equipping participants to lead people, teams, and change in today’s complex healthcare environment.

The Nurse Leadership Fellowship continues to demonstrate measurable impact in preparing practice-ready nurse leaders who can navigate complexity with confidence and clarity. As reflected in the infographic, both the Appalachian and ETSU cohorts overwhelmingly rated the program positively, with no negative responses across any leadership competency measured. A majority of fellows in both groups selected “Strongly Agree” across nearly all domains, and 100% agreed or strongly agreed that they are able to lead authentically, build clear leadership teams, communicate collaboratively, and foster trust. More than 90% also reported strengthened ability to prevent burnout for themselves and their teams while building resilience, an essential capability in today’s high-demand healthcare environments. While neutral responses appeared slightly more often in the ETSU cohort, they remained low overall, reinforcing consistent mastery and confidence across leadership skills including strategy, change frameworks, financial understanding, and influence. The data confirm that the fellowship is not simply a professional development experience, it is a structured, applied program that equips nurse leaders to lead people, lead change, and sustain performance in real-world healthcare settings.
