About this initiative

Tennessee’s Healthcare Heroes: A Coloring Adventure is a K–5 educational coloring book designed to introduce children to nursing and the broader healthcare workforce in a fun, engaging, and age-appropriate way. Research consistently demonstrates that early exposure to careers plays a critical role in shaping children’s future interests and aspirations. By introducing healthcare professions at a young age, we help children begin to imagine themselves in these roles long before formal career exploration begins.

This initiative supports long-term nursing workforce pipeline development by promoting positive, inclusive representations of nurses and other healthcare professionals across diverse settings. Tennessee’s Healthcare Heroes highlights teamwork, compassion, and service while familiarizing children with the many ways healthcare workers support their communities. The coloring book is available in both English and Spanish to increase accessibility and reach families across Tennessee, and it has been reviewed by a Child Life Specialist to ensure content is developmentally appropriate, engaging, and supportive of young learners.

Coloring Book Request Guidelines:

Organizations may request up to 25 complimentary copies of Tennessee’s Healthcare Heroes: A Coloring Adventure, subject to availability. Requests for more than 25 copies will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis based on the intended use, audience, quantity requested, and available inventory.
