The 60-Day Rule: What Nurses Must Do When They Move

Key Points 

• Effective January 2, 2024, Tennessee implemented the NLC 60-Day Rule. 

• Nurses who move from one compact state to another must apply for licensure in their new PSOR within 60 days. 

• You may only practice on your former multistate license until the new one is issued. 

• Once the new multistate license is issued, the former license becomes invalid. 

How It Works

1. Nurse relocates to a new compact state 

2. PSOR changes 

3. Apply for new multistate license within 60 days 

4. New PSOR issues license 

5. Old license is no longer valid 

Important Compliance Notes 

• Practicing without updating licensure after 60 days may result in loss of practice privileges. 

• Disciplinary actions in any compact state are reported to your PSOR.
